At ABC BOOKS we love books. We want to purchase every book that we are capable of selling and pay you the most we can for those books. Aside from being appropriate subject matter that we can sell, your books MUST be in saleable condition.
Lets take a look at condition flaws that make some books impossible for us to sell.
SPINE CONDITION ON PAPERBACKS
These are examples of various paperback spines with stress lines, cocking and various types of wear that make them undesirable for resale.
COVER WEAR
Aside from damage to the spine, the next major condition issue that affects saleability of a book is wear to the wrappers, or cover. If your book has undue scuffing, scratching or dog ears to the cover we will be unable to purchase it.
CRUSHED BOOKS
A book may generally still be intact, but along the way have been crushed by improper storage. This too affects its ability to be resold.
WATER DAMAGE AND SOILING
Books and water do not mix. That goes for coffee and wine too. If your book has gotten wet by accident or because you like to read in the bathtub, please recycle it.
UNDERLINING
Before bringing your books to us for sale, flip through them and make sure they weren't used for note making. Pencil, pen and marker underlining may make them invaluable for your own reference, but impossible for us to use as store stock.
SPLIT BINDINGS
Leaf through your books and check for broken spines. Readers that are hard on their books may unnecessarily bend the pages back too far when reading and split the spines. Alternately a paperback that is quite old may often split from simple age as the glue in the spine dries out. Flip through your books to make sure they aren't falling apart.
LIBRARY BOOKS
If it is a book with library markings and stamps purchased from a library sale we will definitely not be interested in that book. These markings are generally quite obvious and on library hardbacks the book usually has had its jacket protected by a mylar wrapper.
To avoid disappointment when bringing items for sale into ABC BOOKS it is always worth your while to quickly go through your books and eliminate any items that are in poor condition. If you edit the items with flaws that are listed above you will save yourself carrying around heavy books that you may have to take back home.
